August 18 2019 Update
Marla is over the moon excited about her new kitty, Milo! Marla adopted Milo from the Rifle Animal Shelter earlier this month of August 2019. Milo is a 2 year old neutered male domestic shorthair. He is a bundle of energy! Milo was fostered by woman affiliated with the shelter before Marla adopted him. He was an outdoor kitty, so he is becoming accustomed to living indoors at Marla’s house. He loves to run and play! He also snuggles up to Marla from time to time, which she loves.
Frustratingly, Marla took a fall while climbing the steps to her front door Friday afternoon August 17, 2019. She fell forward and landed awkwardly on her left hand. X-Rays taken during a visit to the emergency room that evening revealed that she broke some bones in the wrist of her one good hand. Unfortunately, due to Marla’s brain injury, her proprioception (the sense and awareness of where her body is in space) is not what it was before her accident. This makes her prone to injuries like this, also when she tripped on a curb many years back and tore a ligament in her left knee.
Marla is beside herself with sadness and frustration because losing the use of her one good hand means a loss of independence. Marla is so fiercely independent that it is very upsetting to her to be impacted in this way. Depending on the availability of a surgeon, Marla will probably have surgery on the wrist sometime the week of August 19, 2019. Husband Mark, and of course Mary and Leo, are helping her with her daily needs and activities as she heals.
Please keep marla in your thoughts and prayers as she heals from this latest setback. Marla has had more than enough surgeries to last her a lifetime, thank you!
